MicroStation is a 2D and 3D CAD design tool that enables users to view, model, document, and visualize projects of any size or complexity. The power and versatility of MicroStation make it an ideal tool for infrastructure projects of every type. MicroStation and other Bentley solutions can be deployed within multi-discipline teams for the design and analysis of roads, bridges, tunnels, drainage systems, subsurface utilities, and more. Transportation industry professionals benefit greatly from detailed planning, design, and as-built content for asset management, maintenance, routing and permitting, GIS, or other applications. Bentley software is used by 45 U.S. Departments of Transportation, seven Canadian Ministries of Transportation, the top 25 transportation design firms, and municipal governments and transportation agencies around the world.
About Street SmartTM for MicroStation
Street SmartTM for MicroStation CONNECT Edition is a plugin which brings the high-quality 360° street level imagery and powerful measurement tools provided by CycloMedia’s Street SmartTM viewer into MicroStation. With these tools, users can easily generate 2D or 3D native MicroStation elements directly from real-world coordinates. User efficiency is greatly enhanced by these capabilities in asset management and as-built design workflows. CycloMedia also provides the option to capture photorealistic colorized LiDAR data alongside their patented seamless panorama imagery. Street SmartTM for MicroStation enables users to preview the LiDAR coverage visually and import the data using a simple and intuitive two-click process.
Use of LiDAR and Point Clouds Within the Plugin
CycloMedia captures their high-quality LiDAR data on request for each client. However, when working with such a large volume of information, it can be difficult to manually incorporate into a typical design workflow. Street SmartTM for MicroStation users are provided an interactive tool that greatly streamlines the use of CycloMedia LiDAR. Simply by picking a base point and import radius, users of any skill level can efficiently import the LiDAR as a point cloud – this procedure is equally simple whether the goal is to attach one file, or thousands.
Navigation Within the Plugin
This video is an initial preview in which we demonstrate how navigation controls work both inside and outside of the viewer window. Pan, zoom, and movement controls are available to the user outside the viewer through the use of the toolbar buttons as well as an interactive widget control – this provides a browsing experience that is seamless with the existing MicroStation environment. Simply drop into movement mode to make minute adjustments to the viewer via the widget, or else feel free to adjust orientation and field of view from within the viewer.
Measurements Within the Plugin
In this video, we demonstrate how active Street SmartTM measurements are displayed in the MicroStation view as a lightweight transient overlay, and then later generated as MicroStation elements using the current layer display settings. While there are a number of element types currently supported by the plugin, here we will focus only on Shapes, Lines, and Text annotations.
How Street SmartTM for MicroStation Helps
Street SmartTM for MicroStation empowers its users with invaluable real-world information for planning, design, analysis, asset management, maintenance and numerous other workflows. Users of the Street SmartTM viewer with MicroStation can generate new design and annotative elements rapidly from measurements taken in the viewer. In addition, plugin users can auto-elevate existing geometry to the road-surface elevation of the nearest panorama. By repeating this process, designers can quickly go from a flat 2D design to a 3D one. These features, along with increased ease-of-use for CycloMedia’s colorized LiDAR, make for a robust and flexible product that delivers numerous benefits to transportation professionals.
